Threads have a new feature of DM in its 2nd anniversary, Meta announces that one user can now directly send a message to another user. The primary reason behind this step is to emerge as an individual social media platform different from Instagram.
From 1st July, 2025, you can send a direct message within Thread.
Why is Direct Messaging important?
- From the beginning, direct messaging has been the most requested feature among users.
- And this addition will help Threads to stand out among its competitors.
- It will help the platform to strengthen the communication among the users.

Things to Remember:
- Initially, messaging will be allowed to people aged 18 and older.
- You can send and receive messages to a follower or from a follower on threads and Instagram. (It is primarily restricted due to safety concerns.)
- This platform will give you the option to get messages from those who are not followers; you have to decide whether you want to receive them or not.
- There will be a group messaging option too.
With direct messages, Meta also announces a new visual element, which is “Threads Highlighter“. It will help you highlight the trending topic.

Initially, Thread was created as an offshoot of Instagram, but with its present popularity, it is one step closer to standing as an individual platform. As per Meta, Threads has seen a 35% in time spent compared to actual good news to its creators.
As per a Meta Spoke person, “With more people joining the vibrant conversations and communities on Threads, it’s on track to be Meta’s next major social app, and the best alternative to X and other text-based sharing platforms.”
